The Baltimore Modular Website has launched!

In an effort to become more vertically integrated (I have to live up to the name of Vertical Architecture Enterprises), a little over a year ago Jenn Dewees (president of the Maryland Center for Construction Education & Innovation (MCCEI)) and I started an initiative called Baltimore Modular (BMOD). Sparked initially by our desire to find mass retrofit solutions to transform Baltimore’s vacant houses into viable homes, we are working to build a state-wide industrialized offsite construction ecosystem that benefits all of Maryland.

This year BMOD was awarded an EPA Thriving Communities Grant (Green & Healthy Homes Inivitiative) allowing us to work with communities in South Baltimore to plan key components of our envisioned offsite construction ecosystem: the main factory and community center, workforce programming, and a rowhome pilot project utilizing an array of pre-fabricated products and offsite-construction services. More on the grant can be found here: https://www.baltimoremodular.org/epa-thriving-communities-grant

Our core BMOD team has expanded to include Brent Sturlaugson and Kamalesh Panthi at Morgan State University; Andrea Anderson (MCCEI); and Ethan Cohen. And we are grateful for the expertise of MOD X on the EPA grant among other efforts.
